In recent years, the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Commission of Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) have all reported no clear link has been made between antiperspirants containing aluminum and breast cancer or Alzheimer’s disease.

Aluminum salts are typically a blend of aluminum chloride or aluminum zirconium, of which 18 different varieties are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for over-the-counter antiperspirant products. Aluminum salts in antiperspirants work to form insoluble plugs within sweat ducts to temporarily prevent sweat from reaching the surface of the skin.

From the day Jaime Schmidt first cracked the deodorant code” with her aluminum-free natural deodorant formula she produced in her Portland, Oregon kitchen, we have chosen not to use aluminum salts in our products at Schmidt’s. Our deodorants are not antiperspirants and therefore do not contain any added aluminum salts, instead using natural plant powders like arrowroot powder or minerals like magnesium hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to help keep you fresh.

Sweating is the body’s natural process of keeping your body temperature regulated. At Schmidt’s, we believe it’s possible to sweat for all the good reasons, without the stink.
